Better Homes And Gardens Stylemaker Event 2021
In this post: Each year Better Homes & Gardens magazine selects their Stylemakers of the year, and celebrates these influencers at their BHG Stylemaker Event.
Blogging can be a lonely business. You sit at your desk all day, alone with your computer, pouring your creative soul out onto the keyboard. Sometimes you take time to run out for flowers for a photo shoot or check in with your Facebook groups to see if there's any new technology you need to be up on. But mostly you work at home and it can be quiet.
But bloggers do have co-workers and they are primarily other bloggers.
And if you're really lucky, you get to meet in person from time to time.
A couple of weeks ago, I was honored to be invited to an event in New York City, hosted by Better Homes & Gardens. Each year the magazine selects their Stylemakers of the year, the influencers, bloggers and other creatives who inspire with their vision of style and taste. Recognized in the pages of the magazine, the issue is celebrated with the New York City event.
As someone who lives in the New York Metro area, a trip to NYC is hardly a unique occasion for me, but meeting the friends I interact with on a daily basis is a true privilege. Above you can see some of my Instagram friends, with Penny and Brittany from Happy Days Farm, Karan from Designs by Karan, and Kristi from The Pickled Rose in the front, taking the picture. As usual you can find me in the center, adorned with a scarf.
While most of us arrived the day before the event, the day-long event was held at The Public Hotel, a wonderful venue in lower Manhattan that itself exudes style and taste. The day began with a lovely breakfast and some time to mingle with the other Stylemakers.
Better Homes & Gardens organized a top-notch program of speakers including one of my favorites, above, Patty Morrissey, a KonMari expert and consultant who emphasized decluttering as a means to clear not only your home, but your life and mind as well, to prepare it for creative expression.

Next up was the fabulous Marian McEvoy, a former editor in chief of Elle Decor, who shared her bold and motivating approach to design by way of a casual conversation with Stephen Orr, the Editor-in-Chief of Better Homes & Gardens.
After breaking for lunch we visited with some of the sponsors, including trying out new lipsticks at the Maybelline counter.
Some of these treats made a reappearance in the awesome goodie bags we received!
The afternoon program started with a panel discussion all about Podcasting and then proceeded with a moving and inspirational interview with Bobby Berk of the series Queer Eye, who recounted the personal story of his journey to success with his insistence on remaining true to himself.
The day ended with a rooftop cocktail party on a magnificent New York City early fall evening!
The setting sun and New York skyline provided the perfect backdrop for photos with friends.
I was charmed to finally meet in person the ever-so-talented Janice from Fig and Twigs.
A huge thank you to Better Homes & Gardens for including me as a 2019 Stylemaker at this terrific event!
